Lloyd H. Baker

Founder, Professional Engineer & Land Surveyor

July 12, 1930 - December 25, 2008

Mr. Baker was head of civil engineering and surveying since the founding of Gertsch-Baker in 1973 until his untimely death on December 25, 2008.

Prior to Gertsch-Baker, Lloyd worked as an engineer for the Wyoming Highway Department and the University of Wyoming where he was responsible for construction surveying, inspection, and road design.  Lloyd worked for WYDOT when I-80 was being built through Laramie and remembers the debates held over the location of I-80 in the Elk Mountain area.  He and Ted founded Gertsch-Baker in 1973, completing the first projects out his garage converted to office.  Over the more than 35 years as department head, Lloyd supervised design and construction of more than 50 subdivisions in Laramie and the State of Wyoming.

Lloyd was a teacher, mentor, engineer, surveyor, and friend who’s wry humor is missed daily in our office.  Upon Lloyd’s passing, Ted noted that ‘he couldn’t imagine a better partner, 35 years with no disagreements!’
